LATEST: British newspaper editor CLIVE GOODMAN has been charged over claims he is involved in a phone hacking scandal at PRINCE CHARLES' London residence Clarence House.
The News Of The World royal editor faces eight counts of illegally intercepting telephone voicemail messages between 3 January (06) and 30 May (06). Private investigator GLENN MULCAIRE faces the same charges.
London police headquarters Scotland Yard's anti-terrorist branch launched an enquiry after complaints by three members of the Prince's staff.
A police statement released yesterday (09AUG06) reads: "Police launched an investigation after concerns were reported to the Met's Royalty Protection Department by members of the Royal Household at Clarence House.
"It is focused on alleged repeated security breaches within telephone networks over a significant period of time and the potential impact this may have on protective security around a number of individuals.
"Police continue to work with the telephone companies concerned and continue to have their full support in attempting to identify any other person whose telephone may have been intercepted." The two men were released on bail and are due to appear at London's Horseferry Magistrate's Court on Wednesday (16AUG06). A third man arrested on Tuesday (08AUG06) has yet to be charged.
