‘Man who signed all the cheques’ is biggest fish yet for Akers’ Weeting team
The Slog understands that the 71 year-old man arrested by the Metropolitan Police today is Stuart Kuttner, the now retired Managing Editor of the News of the World.
As the person alleged to have signed all the cheques relating to hush-money for both hacking victims and jailed hackers, it is thought by sources close to the action that Kuttner could provide a mine of hugely incriminating evidence about precisely who had approved his actions.
It is, in particular, an enormous blow to the fortunes of James Murdoch.
I understand that Kuttner has the potential to provide incontrovertible testimony to the effect that Murdoch junior knew far more than he admitted to the CM&S committee.
Others have also been saying for some time that Stuart Kuttner holds the key to a tunnel leading all the way back to Rupert.
