#Pressreform #Leveson Inquiry : #DCI Mike Lawlor Charged With Snooping On Restricted Files

The big question is, who was Mike Lawlor 'snooping' for and how much if anything was he being paid to 'snoop' ?

Charged with passing guarded intelligence to the outside world...would that be the press by any chance ?

A TOP detective in Merseyside police was today set to appear in court charged with allegations of snooping into restricted files.

DCI Mike Lawlor, 43, was arrested in June as part of an investigation into alleged leaks of secret information.

Colleagues questioned him as they investigated claims closely-guarded intelligence had been passed to the outside world.

Based in the Intelligence and Security Bureau (ISB) at Merseyside police’s Canning Place headquarters, the former temporary Detective Superintendent was immediately suspended from duty when he was released on bail.

Yesterday he was charged over the allegations.

He was set to appear at the city’s magistrates court today charged with six counts of the unauthorised accessing of personal data controlled by the police.
