Rupert Murdoch’s son-in-law is the great-grandson of Sigmund Freud.
Sigmund FreudMatthew Freud is married to Elisabeth Murdoch, Rupert’s daughter, who is expected to join the News Corp. board this fall. His father, Clement Freud, was a member of Parliament. His uncle is the well-known painter, Lucian Freud.
Elisabeth Murdoch is the founder of Shine Group, which her father’s company purchased for $670 million. There is speculation that she is her father’s back-up successor, should things not work out for her brother James.
A little more family trivia: Matthew Freud’s sister, Emma, is married to Richard Whalley Anthony Curtis, screenwriter of such films as “Notting Hill,” “Bridget Jones’s Diary” and “Four Weddings and a Funeral.”
