James Murdoch has made a terrible if not mortal error of judgement. Not only did he sack Tom Crone, as loyal and decent employee as ever worked for News International after twenty six years, he has made it clear that he will not, unlike so many others, be found alternative employment in the corporation.
That is pretty shitty behaviour. But not quite mortal.
What will seal the fate of young Murdoch and what will cast him into the eternal fires of corporate hell is putting Crone and Colin Myer in the frame about the now infamous Gordon Taylor hacking email.
Now I thought that the boy Murdochio was some sort of city whizz kid, some corporate guru with his fingers on the pulse of daddy’s business. But the events of the last few days shows that he is totally out of his depth.
Let me tell you a few things about Tom Crone, a man that I have known and liked for many years. He is popular, respected and trustworthy. He is no sleazeball corporate litigator. He plays by the rules and with a straight bat. If he didn’t, he would have been destroyed in the courts years ago.
